OUR STORY

Third Generation Family-Owned Farm

Old Hall Farm is a 420 acre mixed farm, farmed by mother and son partnership, Julie and Nick Anema. The farm consists predominately of floristically rich grassland grazed by our own Aberdeen Angus Beef cattle and Hebridean sheep. Nick is the third generation farmer who took over the reins from his father in 1999. Nick has evolved the farm to produce sustainable high quality beef and lamb and concentrated on the conservation of the land in harmony with nature.

Alongside our passion for producing top quality grass fed meats we have been involved in several environmental schemes since 2001 that have allowed us to concentrate on protecting the environmental diversity of the farm. As part of our various options within higher level stewardship (HLS) schemes to improve conservation and bio diversity we graze non-fertilized species rich grassland. Pollen and nectar plots and flower rich margins supply food for bee’s and other pollinating insects and wild bird food plots are sown to provide food for birds during the ‘hunger gap’ winter months. We annually throw the farm gates open to the general public for Open Farm Sunday for free farm tours. We hope this helps to explain the importance of conservation farming.
